Gus Chavez is a welcome new addition to our Juno Beach Police Department.
Officer Chavez joins us after a very successful 30-year law enforcement career with the West Palm Beach Police Department. During his time in West Palm Beach, Officer Chavez served as Field Training Officer, Hostage Negotiator, Police Motorcycle Officer, and Traffic Homicide Investigator. He was also a member of the West Palm Beach Police Department’s SWAT Team and Organized Crime Unit.
A native of Cuba, Gus came to the United States at the age of 9, He grew up in West Palm Beach and began his working career as an electrician. But he always admired the law enforcement officers he met in West Palm Beach. At the age of 24 Chavez became a Reserve Police Officer with West Palm Beach and at the age of 26 was hired as a full time Police Officer.
Officer Chavez was a highly decorated Officer in West Palm Beach and he brings to Juno Beach a number of valuable skills and talents. Asked about his thoughts on the Juno Beach Police Department Officer Chavez said – “in the brief time I have been here, I find the work environment in the Juno Beach Police Department to be second to none. There is a great fit and terrific work environment among all the members of the Department. I felt welcome here from day one.”
Gus has two grown children, a daughter who is a trauma nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in West Palm Beach, and a son who is a mechanical engineer in Denver, Colorado. He says he is most blessed by having his first grandson in Colorado.… and by his 95-year old mother who he takes care of on a daily basis.
