Denise Quimby, Director

Denise Quimby is an attorney with nearly two decades of experience in all aspects of civil litigation who has practiced extensively in the state and federal courts of California and Illinois. As a litigator, Denise’s practice includes Federal and State False Claims Act/qui tam (representing whistleblowers), commercial litigation, and employment law.

Denise obtained her undergraduate degree in History from the University of California, San Diego, and her Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law. She is licensed to practice law in California, Illinois, and the District of Columbia.

In addition to her law practice, Denise provided free legal services and acted as Guardian Ad Litem on behalf of low income Chicagoans through Chicago Volunteer Lawyer Services. In 2013, she was honored to be chosen as a finalist for the Public Justice Trial Lawyer of the Year Award for her work on a nursing home fraud case.

In November 2015, Denise and her husband, Collins Whitfield, established their law firm – Whitfield & Quimby, P.C. – in Chicago, Illinois. Collins has since retired and Denise practices part-time, primarily providing pro bono legal services. Denise and Collins spend their summers at the Whitfield Farm outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Before becoming an attorney, Denise worked in the financial services industry in San Diego, Washington, D.C., New York, and London, with an emphasis on personal trust and asset management for high net worth individuals and families.

Denise and Collins purchased their Juno Beach condominium in early 2015. Since then, Denise has been very active in the community, serving on the Steering Committee of the Juno Beach Property Owner’s Association and as a member of the Juno Beach Civic Association. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Juno Ocean Club Condominium Association for three years, serving as President of the Board for one of those years.

Outside of the law, Denise enjoys golf, tennis and gardening. She also participates in the Order of Malta’s Prison Ministry Pen Pal Program.

Thoughts on public safety …

“Public safety is our most important value because it makes everything else possible. When we feel safe, we get to know our neighbors. When we feel safe, our kids are free to explore. When we feel safe, our businesses can thrive. When we feel safe, our schools can be woven more deeply into the community. When we feel safe we are more open to accept people who look, worship or act differently than us.

Public safety is our most basic community service and the irony is that the better we deliver the service the less people think about it. The children who walk safely to school, the neighbors who walk to the corner store, the commuter who walks home from the bus or train late at night, the senior citizen sitting safely on their front porch at sunset rarely think that they can only enjoy this kind of life because of the protection provided by their local police officers. In our daily life, we usually think about our police when something has gone wrong… When an officer dies or when he or she makes a mistake.

So it takes a special person to be a police officer—a person who can protect and serve, with strength and compassion, often without that recognition—willingly ready to put themselves in harm’s way so others can go about their daily lives.”

— Former Nassau County (NY) Police Commissioner, Lawrence Mulvey
