Soon after the formation of the Police Foundation, we received a grant request from the Police Department to help fund AED’s for each of the Town’s police cars.
The Police Department already had AED’s in their patrol vehicles but those units were donated by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue over ten years ago. The technology was old and the batteries, as well as some of the units themselves, were starting to fail.
It is not at all uncommon for Juno Beach police officers to arrive on scene before units from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. It’s critical therefore that our police officers, who are also trained in CPR, have the equipment necessary to help improve your chances of survival from a sudden cardiac arrest.
The Foundation took action and made an immediate grant to the Town in the amount of $10,000 for the purchase of the latest AED technology.
With this new equipment our police officers can now employ the same technology that is used by emergency medical responders and physicians to restart a heart that has stopped beating.
While we are hopeful that the AED’s are seldom needed, we are proud of the fact that, through the generosity of our community, the Foundation was able to respond so quickly and place an AED in every Juno Beach police car.
