Officer John Fleming

Officer Fleming became a member of the Juno Beach Police Department in 2011 after a 20-year law enforcement career with NYPD in New York.

While with NYPD John spent most of his career as a patrol officer in Queens, the largest geographic Borough in the City of New York with over 2 million residents. He became a member of law enforcement because he had family members in the NYPD and of his deep conviction about public safety and ensuring the well being of the community.

Officer Fleming vividly recalls responding to investigate a doctor’s office robbery in Flushing, Queens where four subject had taken several staff members as hostages while they barricaded themselves in the doctors office.

John, an avid golfer, lives in Loxahatchee with his wife Caryn and his two teenage children, Jack and Riley. He believes that Florida is the golf capital of the world and is thrilled to be able to live here.

Officer Fleming says that Juno Beach is a great town with great people and is a wonderful place to work. He is particularly proud of the men and women he works with and the efforts of the Juno Beach Police Foundation.

Officer Fleming can often be seen driving the Department’s LPR (License Plate Reader) car and making traffic stops throughout the Town. By maintaining high profile visibility, he helps ensure the safety of both the Town and its residents.

Thoughts on public safety …

“Public safety is our most important value because it makes everything else possible. When we feel safe, we get to know our neighbors. When we feel safe, our kids are free to explore. When we feel safe, our businesses can thrive. When we feel safe, our schools can be woven more deeply into the community. When we feel safe we are more open to accept people who look, worship or act differently than us.

Public safety is our most basic community service and the irony is that the better we deliver the service the less people think about it. The children who walk safely to school, the neighbors who walk to the corner store, the commuter who walks home from the bus or train late at night, the senior citizen sitting safely on their front porch at sunset rarely think that they can only enjoy this kind of life because of the protection provided by their local police officers. In our daily life, we usually think about our police when something has gone wrong… When an officer dies or when he or she makes a mistake.

So it takes a special person to be a police officer—a person who can protect and serve, with strength and compassion, often without that recognition—willingly ready to put themselves in harm’s way so others can go about their daily lives.”

— Former Nassau County (NY) Police Commissioner, Lawrence Mulvey
