Officer recognized for Aggravated Stalking arrest

A member of our Juno Beach Police Department was recently recognized by the agency for his outstanding and dedicated police work. The following is the official memo from the Juno Beach Police Department concerning his actions:

This memo is in reference to recognizing Det. Jorge Carvajal for his outstanding police work on a recent stalking case. A female victim was receiving repeated harassing and threatening calls from a male suspect that she never knew personally but worked together with at the same large corporation. As time went on the voicemails became more erratic and severe in tone putting the victim in great emotional fear. In one 24 hr. period over a hundred calls were recorded from the suspect.

The victim, with the assistance of Det. Carvajal, secured an injunction against the suspect and required surveillance of her residence for fear that he would follow through on his threats.

Because of Det. Carvajal's dedication to the case a no-bond, full extradition warrant was secured for the suspect's arrest and Georgia officials took the suspect into custody. The suspect was extradited back to Palm Beach County where he was convicted of Aggravated Stalking. Though not required as part of the case Det. Carvajal attended the victim's appeal for the injunction and reached out to the suspect's local Police Department and arranged for continual surveillance of the suspect's residence in order to provide some small comfort and sense of security for the victim.

In light of the increasing instances of violence in schools and the workplace, Det. Carvajal treated the case with extreme diligence, professionalism and caring while pursuing the case.

Sgt. A. Luscavich #225

Congratulations to Detective Jorge Carvajal of our

Thoughts on public safety …

“Public safety is our most important value because it makes everything else possible. When we feel safe, we get to know our neighbors. When we feel safe, our kids are free to explore. When we feel safe, our businesses can thrive. When we feel safe, our schools can be woven more deeply into the community. When we feel safe we are more open to accept people who look, worship or act differently than us.

Public safety is our most basic community service and the irony is that the better we deliver the service the less people think about it. The children who walk safely to school, the neighbors who walk to the corner store, the commuter who walks home from the bus or train late at night, the senior citizen sitting safely on their front porch at sunset rarely think that they can only enjoy this kind of life because of the protection provided by their local police officers. In our daily life, we usually think about our police when something has gone wrong… When an officer dies or when he or she makes a mistake.

So it takes a special person to be a police officer—a person who can protect and serve, with strength and compassion, often without that recognition—willingly ready to put themselves in harm’s way so others can go about their daily lives.”
